Queenstown Library finally closed its doors to the public on 31 Aug. It will be closed for around 2 to 3 years as it undergoes a major renovation into a swankier building with extension blocks, while preserving its facade, which has defined the library for decades.

I would like to say that Queenstown Library, which opened in 1970, has touched the lives of many people over generations. From its humble beginning when it first began its operations, it has been a place where parents bring their children to read, learn and bond with each other.

For both my wife and I, it would be our regular weekend jaunt after we had our lunch at the nearby hawker centre. We would have slow walks to the hawker centre for lunch before going to the library to read, relax and enjoy the air-con (oops, Singlish check). My wife would borrow new books for the week while I would browse the magazines, and occasionally browse through the vast number of books available. 😊

Well, it is hard to say goodbye to a place that has been part of our lives for a good half-a-decade. It is a place that has been part of our lives, and it will be missed. I hope that the new library will be as good as the old one, if not better. Looking forward to the new library, and I hope that it will be a place where we can continue to enjoy our weekends together.
